NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 25, 1997--A new, authoritative list of the top 500 World Wide Web Sites, commercial online services and online interactive properties introduced today by Media Metrix, The PC Meter Company - the leading provider of new media and digital technology measurement services. The Media Metrix 500 is posted on the company's Web site, www.mediametrix.com, and will be updated monthly.

The list comprises the 500 World Wide Websites, commercial online services and online interactive applications that attract the greatest number of "unique" visitors (multiple visits by the same person count only once) over the course of the month, reflecting their broad popularity. The sites are identified using data collected digitally by Media Metrix' patented, proprietary PC Meter software, from a sample of at-home and at-work users of the Web and online media. That data also provides the basis for a number of Media Metrix subscription services, including the industry-leading World Wide Web Audience Ratings report, which currently ranks more than 5,000 Web sites.
