NSW:Pre-Christmas spike in theft offences

A rise in fraud and theft offences across Sydney in the lead up to Christmas has sparked
a security reminder from NSW police.

Police say in the five days to Sunday .. 72 people were arrested and charged with 85
fraud and theft offences .. and more than 17 thousand dollars worth of property was recovered.

Among the offenders nabbed during Operation Lightfingers was a woman in the Pitt Street
Mall .. who took a wallet and mobile phone from another woman's handbag.
