BUSH'S PANEL URGES FASTER TESTING OF AIDS, CANCER DRUGS.(Main)

President Bush's advisory panel on the treatment of cancer and AIDS proposed major changes Wednesday in government testing of experimental drugs to speed them to patients "for whom time is running out."

For patients who are not benefited by approved and readily available medicines, "still unproved therapies may represent their only hope," the panel said in its final report.

For patients who resist all available therapies, "new treatments on the cutting edge of science may represent the best standard of care," it said.
