Fed: Red planet gets close to Earth next week
If you want a closer look at the planet Mars, scientists say you should go bush nextweek for the best view in almost 60,000 years.
That's because the red planet will next week pass closer to Earth than any time inthe last 57,000 years.
And one of the world's best viewing points will be in the Australian bush.
Coonabarabran in north-west New South Wales is the best place to see the Martian closeencounter with Earth.
At 7.51pm (AEST) on Wednesday, August the 27th, Mars will only be 55,760,000 kilometresfrom the Earth - four times closer than its average distance of 228,000,000 kilometres.
