TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 31, 2006) - The Toronto Sunis the only Toronto newspaper to record increases in total paidcirculation, as reported by the Audit Bureau of Circulations for thesix-month period ended Sept. 30, 2006. The ABC numbers show acontinued decline in overall newspaper circulation, a trend that hasbeen accelerating in the last few years.
"This is particularly good news for the Sun, given the overalldecline in the print media industry and the strong competition thatexists in the Greater Toronto Area market where free dailies are partof the intense competition for the changing habits and needs ofnewspaper readers," said Kin-Man Lee, Publisher of the Toronto Sun.
"The positive results for the Toronto Sun underscore the need forus to continue with our strategies to expand home delivery, developnew editorial content, improve our business operations and subscriberservices and, beginning next year, to make use of world classprinting technology currently being installed in Islington," said Mr.Lee.
"Development of the Sun's home delivery subscriptions in selectedareas of the GTA contributed to the improved circulation numbers,"Mr. Lee said "and home delivery will be expanded in January of nextyear to include almost all neighbourhoods in the GTA."
The ABC research released Monday compares the six-month periodended Sept. 30, 2006, with the corresponding period in 2005.
